Rules, controls and help for Forty Thieves Solitaire

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Forty Thieves Solitaire. Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Check the rule that explains your first action. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Two decks, ten columns, single-pass stock, no recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

One thing to notice as you play

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Make the next step deliberately.

The purpose of your moves

Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Work through the instructions

  1. Move one card at a time; build down in the same suit. Empty columns accept one card.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

The controls to know

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

See the idea in action

A club 5 can move onto a club 6, but a whole run cannot move together. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Choose a deliberate next step.

Check this before moving on

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
