How to Play Carrom

THE PLAYBOOK · GG-SCMS

Carrom: from controls to your first round

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Carrom. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

Practice with a purpose

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The purpose of your moves

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Work through the instructions

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Input guidance

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Follow the example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Check the stated objective.

Avoid this misunderstanding

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
