Making your first moves in Samurai Sudoku

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Samurai Sudoku. Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Look at what changes after your first action.

This collection contains 4 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

One thing to notice as you play

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The challenge in front of you

Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

The order of play

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

See how the rules apply

One value entered in an overlap serves two boards, so check the corresponding rows, columns and boxes of both. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Look for the relevant detail.

Notice this detail

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Check the rule before repeating the action. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
