Making your first moves in Reversi
Make Reversi your next activity in the game library. When neither player has a legal move, the player with more discs on the board wins; equal totals are a draw. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Look at what changes after your first action.
Bring this focus to a round
After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Keep the objective visible.
What the game asks you to do
When neither player has a legal move, the player with more discs on the board wins; equal totals are a draw. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Take a moment to understand the current position.
The order of play
- Black moves first. Highlighted cells show legal placements.
- Place a disc to trap one or more opponent discs in a straight line.
- Every trapped line from that placement is flipped.
- If a player has no legal move, the turn automatically passes.
Using the playing area
Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.
See how the rules apply
Black–white–empty can become black–black–black when Black plays in the empty square. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Notice the change in the playing area.
A mistake to avoid
A placement must flip at least one opposing disc; simply placing beside your own discs is not enough. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
